Romanian Medical College demands physician pay updates and staffing reforms
The College of Physicians in Romania (CMR) has issued an open letter to political leaders requesting urgent reforms to the national healthcare system. The organization is calling for the inclusion of several key measures in the government program, including the balanced distribution of doctors across the country and the implementation of the 2022-2030 Multiannual Strategy for Human Resources Development in Health.
A primary demand involves updating the remuneration for on-call shifts. The CMR requests legislative changes so that work performed outside legal norms is compensated based on current base salaries rather than daily rates. Additionally, the College is advocating for improved working conditions, including regulated activity volumes, appropriate team sizing, and the provision of functional, safe workspaces.
To address physician shortages, the CMR proposes correlating residency positions with the estimated need for specialists and training capacity. The organization also seeks the development of a new Health Law and a Medical Profession Law to ensure predictable funding and improved patient access to care.
