Romanian MEP Diana Iovanovici Șoșoacă Charged with Treason over Russian Contacts

A criminal complaint has been filed with the Romanian Prosecutor's Office attached to the High Court of Cassation and Justice against MEP Diana Iovanovici Șoșoacă, leader of the S.O.S. Romania party. The complaint, signed by Adrian Băzăvan and the association Lupii Tricolori, accuses her of treason for maintaining a systematic pattern of contact with Russian officials and media outlets from March 2022 to June 2026.

Key allegations include a March 30 2022 meeting in Bucharest with Russian ambassador Valeri Kuzmin, during which Șoșoacă presented a proposal called “Bucharest peace” to mediate the Russia‑Ukraine war, without any Romanian state authorization. The filing also references her alleged appreciation of the pro‑Russian hacker group Killnet and claims she transmitted false information. The complainants request investigations for treason and, secondarily, for dissemination of false information.
