DIICOT condemns political meddling in Bihor human‑trafficking investigation

Romanian anti‑organized crime agency DIICOT issued a press release denouncing recent political statements about the ongoing investigation into alleged human‑trafficking and exploitation of vulnerable individuals at a centre in Bihor County. The agency warned that “a democratic state cannot function if any inconvenient investigation is presented as political spectacle” and urged that public debate not be used to pressure prosecutors or judges while the court considers preventive measures.

Minister of Labour Dragoș Pîslaru indicated that 409 vulnerable people evacuated from the Bihor facilities have been placed in safety, with most relocated to authorised social services across 19 counties and the remainder receiving medical care. He announced a forthcoming government decision to allocate budget‑ary resources for their continued support.

DIICOT accused politicians of direct interference, describing the remarks as an attempt to cast doubt on the investigation before a judge could assess the evidence. The agency emphasized the need for responsible public discourse and reiterated its two‑decade‑long fight against organised crime.
