Romanian music scene announces MERIDIAN Festival and new Madrigal Choir website

The Union of Composers and Musicologists of Romania has announced the 21st edition of the MERIDIAN International Festival, scheduled for November 2–8, 2026. The festival will take place in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Timișoara, and Iași, focusing on contemporary music and interdisciplinary collaborations between sound and visual arts.

The SONIMAGICON 2026 component of the festival will explore connections between music, video art, instrumental theater, and electronic textures. Highlights include a multimedia opening at the Bucharest National Opera featuring Béla Bartók’s Sonata for Two Pianos and Percussion, as well as performances by accordionist Maria Mogas Gensana and the devotioModerna ensemble.

In related musical news, the Madrigal – Marin Constantin National Chamber Choir has launched a new website to coincide with International Music Day. The digital platform is designed to improve public access to concert schedules, ticket purchases, and the choir’s extensive archives. The site also features sections on the choir’s cultural diplomacy, heritage, and educational initiatives, providing a centralized hub for its international and domestic activities.
