Romanian National Anthem Day observed with ceremonies in Buzău, Iași and Moldova
Romania marked its National Anthem Day on 29 July with official ceremonies in several cities. In Buzău, the event took place in Piața Dacia and featured the 2nd Infantry Division “Getica”, municipal officials and the Garnizonul Buzău military band, which performed every version of the Romanian anthem from 1862 to the present, including the royal anthem and the four communist‑era anthems. In Iași, the ceremony was held in Piața Palatului; the Honor Guard sang the seven historic anthems while local leaders addressed the crowd, emphasizing the anthem’s role in national unity. The Ministry of National Defence coordinated simultaneous military observances across multiple garrisons.
Moldova also recalled the anthem’s historical use, noting that after its independence the song served as the state anthem on the left bank of the Prut. The holiday commemorates the first official rendition of the anthem in 1848 at Râmnicu Vâlcea, and it was legally established in 1998. The anthem’s music was composed by Anton Pann and its lyrics were written by poet Andrei Mureșanu.
