Romanian officials file heritage motions at Council of Europe

Romanian representatives at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) in Strasbourg have introduced two distinct motions regarding the preservation and recovery of national heritage.

Senator Titus Corlățean and MP Iulian Bulai successfully passed an amendment aimed at requiring Greece to invest in the preservation of Vlach cultural heritage. The amendment, which passed unanimously during a monitoring committee meeting, seeks to ensure Greece respects its obligations to protect this minority heritage. While some Greek parliamentarians attempted to block the text through the PPE political group, the amendment remains a significant step for the recognition of Vlach identity.

Additionally, Corlățean and Bulai have submitted a motion of resolution regarding the Romanian Treasure sent to Moscow during World War I. The motion requests a European debate on the status of this heritage and potential methods for its return to Romania. The motion has passed its initial procedural stage and has been referred to the Legal Affairs Committee for the appointment of a rapporteur, a process expected to continue through December.
