Romanian opera season begins with Wagner and Verdi performances

The 2026–2027 opera season in Romania has commenced with significant performances in Bucharest and Sibiu. The Bucharest National Opera opened its new season with two sold-out performances of Richard Wagner’s ‘Tannhäuser’, directed by Alexander von Pfeil and conducted by Cristian Mandeal.

In Sibiu, the Opera Festival 2026 continues its programming with a focus on the works of Giuseppe Verdi, including ‘Nabucco’, ‘Il trovatore’, and ‘Rigoletto’. The festival schedule also features the ‘Sound Explorers’ interactive concert for children, the syncretic art show ‘First Love’ by Mihai Popean, and a dedicated lyrical art conference.
