Ophthalmologist Monica Pop Hospitalized after Stroke in Bucharest
Renowned Romanian ophthalmologist and former manager of the Bucharest Hospital Clinic of Emergency Ophthalmology, Dr. Monica Pop, announced that she suffered an acute cerebrovascular accident (stroke) and was admitted to the Neurology Department of Elias University Emergency Hospital in Bucharest. In a Facebook post she explained that a heated confrontation with the current hospital director, Dr. Marian Burcea, in front of patients caused intense anger, which she says triggered the stroke. She wrote, “Am făcut un AVC de supărare” (I had a stroke from anger), and thanked the medical staff for their care.
Pop also recounted her past role in appointing Burcea as her successor and criticized recent administrative decisions, such as the renaming of the ophthalmology hospital, which she claims she was not informed about. No clinical details about the type or severity of the stroke were provided, and her recovery is being monitored by specialists.
