Romanian Orthodox Church announces Saint Dimitrie cel Nou pilgrimage

The Romanian Orthodox Church has announced the schedule for the pilgrimage celebrating Saint Dimitrie cel Nou, the Protector of Bucharest. The event is set to begin on October 18 and conclude on October 28. During the first six days, the relics of Saint Dimitrie cel Nou, Saint Great Martyr Dimitrie, Saints Constantine and Elena, and Saint Hierarch Nectarie will be displayed at the historic Patriarchal Cathedral between 7:00 and 21:00.

A major procession, ‘Calea Sfinților’, is scheduled for Saturday, October 24, starting at 12:00. Two separate columns will carry various relics through the streets of Bucharest, meeting at the base of the Patriarchal Hill before ascending to the Cathedral. On October 27, Patriarch Daniel will lead a Holy Liturgy alongside the Holy Synod and a congregation of clergy.

Separately, the Orthodox calendar marks October 19 as a day for commemorating Saint Prophet Joel and Saint Martyr Uar. The day serves as a period for spiritual reflection and the observance of religious traditions within the community.
