A study conducted by Save the Children Romania, funded by the Department for Romanians Abroad, reveals that over one third of Romanian parents working abroad feel their relationship with their children has become more distant. The research, part of the “Call them daily! Connection beyond borders” project, indicates that 35.7% of respondents perceive this emotional distance, while 31.2% communicate with their children less than once a day.

Key findings show that 40.5% of parents believe their children miss spending time together most, and 31.3% believe children miss direct physical affection. Furthermore, 54.2% of surveyed parents are not in direct contact with their child's school or kindergarten. Physical distance, work schedules, and travel costs were cited as the primary obstacles to maintaining close ties.

Regarding future intentions, 41.7% of the surveyed parents plan to return to Romania permanently in the coming years. Conversely, 35.4% of those who do not intend to return permanently plan to settle in their current country of residence with their children within the next two years.
