Parliaments in Moldova and Romania begin new legislative sessions

Parliamentary sessions have commenced in both Romania and Moldova, bringing a series of significant legislative agendas to the forefront.

In Moldova, deputies are meeting to examine 17 law projects, with a primary focus on harmonizing national legislation with European Union standards. Key topics include agro-food sector regulations, the institutionalization of the General Staff of Defense, transport accident investigations, and industrial park developments. Additionally, the legislature will address the 2026 state budget, social insurance, and the ‘Restart in Education’ reform. In response to a recent femicide in Criuleni, lawmakers also planned public hearings to combat violence against women.

In Romania, the new session is marked by political maneuvering and proposed strategic reforms. The Social Democratic Party (PSD) has announced a ten-point ‘National Agreement’ focusing on energy security, taxation, and healthcare. PSD members are also advocating for direct governance and specific social protections, such as tax exemptions for veterans, war widows, and persons with disabilities. Romanian lawmakers face a complex geopolitical landscape, with discussions expected to cover national security, institutional reforms, and the 2027 State Budget.
