Romanian Parliament reshuffles House Bureau leadership

The Romanian Parliament has approved a resolution to restructure the House Bureau, transferring leadership positions from the Alliance for Saving Romania (USR) and the National Liberal Party (PNL) to the Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR) and SOS Romania.

Opposition parties USR and PNL have announced they will challenge the decision at the Constitutional Court, alleging that the vote violated parliamentary rules regarding factional representation. In protest, USR and PNL representatives boycotted parliamentary activities, including plenary sessions and committee meetings.

The Democratic Alliance of Hungarians in Romania (RMDSZ) supported the resolution. RMDSZ parliamentary leader Botond Csoma stated the party was under pressure from the Social Democratic Party (PSD) and faced a dilemma: support the change or risk losing its representation within the House Bureau, which is essential for legislative influence and protecting minority interests.

Critics argue the move signals a shift in parliamentary power, as the PSD appears to be forming a new majority supported by far-right parties to secure future votes and government stability.
