Romanian Police Crack Down on Illegal Logging, Seizing Over 70 Cubic Meters of Wood

Police from the Hunedoara County Public Order Service, together with forest guard specialists, confiscated 70.236 m³ of illegally cut timber in the commune of Cerbăl. The wood, valued at more than 18 000 lei, was seized and the commercial entity responsible was fined 15 000 lei. Investigations continue under a criminal case for illegal tree felling, while the police reported over 300 actions and 1 200 controls in the first half of 2026, resulting in 1 528.43 m³ of timber confiscated overall.

In Brașov County, officers stopped a 34‑year‑old man from Ormeniș in flagrante delicto as he dragged four illegally felled trees with a sled. He has been placed under investigation for illegal cutting and theft of forest trees, with a criminal file opened under the national forestry code. Both operations illustrate the ongoing enforcement effort against illegal logging in Romania.
