Romanian police officer arrested for influence‑peddling bribe

Police officer Niculin Rijoiu Marian, a member of the Public Order Office in Câmpulung and president of a local police union branch, was placed in pre‑trial detention for 30 days by a court in Argeș County. Prosecutors from the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) allege he demanded €12,000 from a fellow officer in exchange for using his contacts to facilitate the colleague’s transfer between two county police inspectorates. According to the investigation, the accused received 10,000 lei of the sum in March 2026. The DNA filed an influence‑peddling charge, and the Tribunal’s rights‑and‑freedoms judge approved the preventive arrest on 23 May 2026. The case remains under investigation.
