Romanian politicians seek new conservative-liberal alliances
Political actors in Romania are seeking to form new alliances under a conservative-liberal banner. The Humanist Conservative Liberal Party (PUCL), founded by Dan Voiculescu, has officially introduced the “conservative” designation to its name. The party has proposed a “Conservative-Liberal Platform” aimed at uniting political forces that defend national values and traditions while remaining within the European Union.
During a meeting of the PUCL National Permanent Bureau, Claudiu Târziu, a former co-president of AUR and founder of Conservative Action, called for a “conservative revolution” to restore normality and refound the Romanian state, which he described as “disintegrated, non-functional, and captive.”
Simultaneously, similar movements are emerging within other parties. A group within the National Liberal Party (PNL) has established a “Liberal Conservative Platform” as an alternative to current leadership. Additionally, Marius Lulea, a founder of AUR, has held meetings with Dan Voiculescu, signaling potential shifts in the parliamentary opposition landscape.
