Romanian poll shows overwhelming public distrust in political leaders and institutions

A nationwide opinion poll conducted by the research institute CURS between 14–24 July 2026 surveyed 1,108 Romanian adults. Eight out of ten respondents said the country is heading in the wrong direction, while only 16% judged the current trajectory as good.

Trust in political figures remains low. The highest rating goes to Călin Georgescu (33% of respondents), followed by Nicușor Dan (30%) and George Simion (24%). Other politicians, including Ilie Bolojan, Sorin Grindeanu and Cristian Popescu Piedone, received between 18% and 23% trust. Government and Parliament were evaluated positively by just 19% and 20% of those surveyed.

Institutions such as the Romanian Army and the Romanian Orthodox Church enjoy the most favourable opinions, with 81% and 79% of respondents expressing a good or very good view respectively. Firefighters, emergency medical services and other bodies rank lower, while the judiciary and the presidency also register limited confidence.
