Romanian prosecutors Gigi Ștefan and Teodor Niță indicted for corruption

Prosecutors Gigi Ștefan and Teodor Niță from the Constanța Court of Appeal Prosecutor's Office have been indicted by the General Prosecutor's Office for multiple corruption offenses. The case involves allegations of bribery, influence peddling, abuse of office, and fabrication of evidence.

Gigi Ștefan is accused of continuous influence peddling. Prosecutors allege he received approximately 110,000 euros, along with various goods such as honey, fish, and meat, to influence public officials and resolve criminal cases favorably. In one instance, he reportedly received 60,000 euros to influence a subordinate prosecutor.

Teodor Niță faces charges including abuse of office, blackmail, and usurpation of function. He is specifically accused of fabricating evidence and modifying witness statements to construct a criminal case against a high-ranking official of the Coast Guard, Adrian Silviu Sima.

Also indicted in the same case are businessmen Mihale Cartali and Dumitru Daniel Learciu, a former county councilor and former executive director of the Agency for Rural Investment Financing (AFIR) in Constanța.
