Romanian railway sector undergoes modernization and infrastructure expansion
Romania's railway sector is undergoing significant modernization and expansion. CFR Călători has announced the completion of investment contracts under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR). This program has resulted in the modernization of 139 passenger carriages and 75 locomotives, including 55 electric locomotives for passenger service and 20 shunting locomotives converted to battery-electric power. All technical works for this project were performed by Romanian industrial partners.
Infrastructure development is also advancing through large-scale projects. Arcada Company is currently involved in railway works valued at over 12.7 billion lei across various regions. A major focus is the Brașov – Sighișoara section, where physical progress has reached approximately 60%. This project includes significant tunnel excavations and is expected to be completed by mid-2028.
To support these operations, CFR SA and Carpatica Feroviar România are launching new recruitment drives. These hiring processes aim to fill various roles, including engineers, architects, accountants, and technical specialists, to manage infrastructure and rolling stock operations.
