Romania administrative reshuffle as multiple prefects resign
A wave of resignations is sweeping through Romania's regional administration following the formation of the Luca Niculescu government and the decision of the National Liberal Party (PNL) to enter the opposition.
Several prefects and subprefects have stepped down, including Andrei Nistor in Bucharest, who resigned in protest against the appointment of a convicted individual to the Ministry of Internal Affairs. In Timiș, Paul Fința announced his departure amid local tensions, while in Bistrița-Năsăud, Stelian Dolha resigned following requests from Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan; subprefect Atilla Décsei will manage the role temporarily.
Other departures include Daniel Nicodim in Prahova, citing PNL's shift to the opposition, and Dumitru Paris, a subprefect in Constanța, who resigned because the USR party decided not to support the new government. Amidst these changes, Cluj-Napoca Mayor Emil Boc has called for an accelerated administrative-territorial reform to consolidate smaller local units.
