Romanian summer tourism sees mixed demand as hotels fill and home‑entertainment sales surge

Retailers across Romania have extended summer promotions, offering discounts of 30‑50% on a wide range of goods to offset a near‑10% drop in non‑food sales, with some campaigns running until September.

A new beach on the Danube at Bașcov near Calafat is attracting thousands of visitors seeking a cheaper alternative to the Black Sea, with accommodation starting around 200 lei per night and many services offered free of charge.

Hotel operators report high occupancy for all‑inclusive resorts—70 hotels now offer this regime, up from 55, and many are fully booked for July, with average nightly rates of about 600 lei for a double room in three‑star properties.

Online supermarket Sezamo records a 40.5% jump in cocktail‑related sales in June, driven by ready‑to‑drink drinks, Hugo cocktails and Hard Seltzer; non‑alcoholic gin volumes surged 281% over the same period.

Tourist arrivals on the Black Sea coast showed a modest decline, with 1.46 million visitors this summer versus 1.40 million the previous year, attributed to reduced purchasing power, the lack of vacation vouchers and unfavourable weather.

Travel experts also warn tourists to inspect hotel rooms for bed‑bugs before unpacking to avoid bringing infestations home.
