Romanian Rugby Player Alex Șuler Dies at 25 in Baia Mare

Alex Șuler, a 25‑year‑old former Romanian U18 and U20 rugby international, died on Thursday evening in Baia Mare. He had been diagnosed with pancreatitis in early July and underwent successful surgery, was discharged after two weeks, but his condition worsened, prompting a second operation. After the second surgery he fell into a coma and did not recover.

Born in 2001 and raised in Italy, Șuler began his rugby career in Ancona before moving to Romania, where he played for CSS 2 Baia Mare and later for the club U Elbi Cluj. He also represented Romania at the European U18 and U20 championships. His mother had previously died in a road accident in Ancona. A funeral service is scheduled for Monday, 10 August, at the municipal cemetery in Baia Mare.
