Romanian sail training ship Mircea arrives in Málaga

The Romanian Navy's sail training ship, Mircea, has arrived in the port of Málaga, Spain, as part of an extensive international training march that began on April 16. The vessel, built in 1938, serves as the primary instructional sailing ship for the Romanian Naval Forces and the Mircea cel Bătrân Naval Academy.

The current voyage is one of the most extensive in recent years, involving two crossings of the Atlantic Ocean. The itinerary has included stops in Italy, the Canary Islands, Puerto Rico, the United States, Canada, the Azores, and Portugal. Currently, 81 students are on board, including five foreign cadets. Throughout the journey, 19 cadets from partner naval academies across ten European nations have also participated.

The stop in Málaga carries diplomatic significance, coinciding with the 145th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Romania and Spain. The ship is open to the public for visits on August 22 and 23 at Muelle ADL – Muelle Adosado al Dique Levante during specific morning and afternoon hours. Following this stop, the Mircea will continue through the Mediterranean before returning to Constanța on September 16.
