Romanian Senate approves extra paid leave for single parents

The Romanian Senate has passed a legislative proposal to amend the Labor Code, granting additional paid leave to single parents. The project aims to provide at least three extra working days of annual rest to compensate for the increased family responsibilities faced by those raising children alone, such as managing medical appointments or school closures.

Currently, the Labor Code provides additional leave for specific groups, including employees in hazardous conditions, visually impaired persons, and individuals with disabilities. If passed, this amendment would expand those protections to include single-parent households.

While the Senate approved the measure with 86 votes in favor and 22 abstentions, the proposal must still be voted on by the Chamber of Deputies and subsequently promulgated by the President to become law. If enacted, the new regulations would take effect on the first day of the year following their publication in the Official Gazette.
