Romanian state spends over €100 million annually on office rentals

The Romanian government is paying more than €100 million each year to rent premises for public institutions. A data set released by the RA‑APPS agency, the first such disclosure since 1989, lists the tenants, the rent amounts and the most costly contracts. The Competition Council tops the list, paying roughly 463,000 lei per month for its headquarters. It is followed by the National Agency for Fiscal Administration (ANAF) at about 411,000 lei monthly and the National Agency for Cadastre and Real Estate Advertising (ANCPI) at around 349,000 lei. Other high‑spending bodies include the National Veterinary and Food Safety Authority, the National Council for the Settlement of Disputes, and the Permanent Electoral Authority. Several ministries also incur multi‑million‑euro costs, such as the Ministry of Investments and European Projects, which spends about €2.4 million a year, and the Bucharest Court of Appeal, whose rentals exceed €1 million annually.
