Romanian students win nine medals at International Earth Science Olympiad

Romanian students achieved significant success at the 19th International Earth Science Olympiad (IESO), held in Torino, Italy, from August 20 to 27, 2026. The Romanian delegation secured a total of nine medals, including four gold, two silver, and three bronze.

In individual categories, Alexandru Niță-Dominte from Bacău won a silver medal, while Victor-Andrei Păun from Ploiești earned a bronze. In international team events, Denisa-Georgina Banu and Victor-Andrei Păun secured gold medals in the International Team Field Investigation (ITFI) practical exam. Additionally, Alexandru-Ioan Jicu and Victor-Andrei Păun won gold in the Earth System Project (ESP) poster competition, while Alexandru Niță-Dominte earned a bronze in the same category.

Denisa-Georgina Banu, an 11th-grade student at the B.P. Hasdeu National College in Buzău, was specifically highlighted for her gold medal performance, which resulted from an interdisciplinary preparation involving physics, chemistry, biology, and geography.
