Prosecutors from the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) in Brașov have filed charges against István Ráduly, prefect of Covasna County, for abuse of office. The indictment also names Maria‑Magdalena Tănase, a public procurement adviser in the prefecture, the construction firm Electroconstrucţia Elco SRL and its representative B.S. as co‑accused for complicity in the same offence.

According to the prosecutors, between September and December 2021 the prefect and the adviser allegedly favoured the firm by awarding a direct‑procurement contract worth more than 356,000 lei for electrical repair and renovation works at the prefecture’s headquarters. The contract was presented as simple repair work to avoid the mandatory technical studies, new project design and approvals required for a genuine modernization of the building’s electrical installation. DNA estimates the alleged damage to the public budget at about 356,000 lei.

All accused are currently free pending trial. The case is being investigated by DNA’s Brașov territorial service.
