Romanian tennis player Gabriela Ruse reaches second round at WTA Toronto

Romanian WTA player Gabriela Ruse advanced to the second round of the WTA 1000 tournament in Toronto after defeating American Peyton Stearns in the first round. The win earned Ruse a prize of $28,425 and 35 ranking points. In the upcoming round she will meet Austria's Anastasia Potapova.

The Toronto event, part of the WTA 1000 series, offers total prize money of $7.433 million. Ruse previously beat Stearns in a qualifying match in Dubai earlier in the season, giving her a 2‑0 head‑to‑head record against the American.
