Romanian tourists boost domestic resort bookings and spend over €3,000 on exotic trips in 2026

For the 2026 Rusalii holiday, Romanian travellers are favouring balneary resorts and rural pensions, with occupancy rates around 70 % for seaside spas and 60 % for countryside guesthouses, according to the Federation of Romanian Tourism Employers. Operators anticipate a surge of last‑minute bookings as warm weather is forecast, noting low summer rates such as 38 lei per night in Eforie Nord and similar offers in Neptun‑Olimp, Saturn and Eforie Sud.

At the same time, Romanians are allocating substantially larger budgets to exotic vacations, often exceeding €3,000 per person. Asian destinations – Japan, China, Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam – remain the most sought‑after, while the Maldives dominate the premium Indian Ocean segment. Africa’s safari markets in Kenya, Tanzania and South Africa are also gaining traction. Emerging interest is observed for the United States and South American countries such as Brazil and Argentina. Half of these complex trips are now organised as guided group tours, reflecting a shift toward structured, multi‑destination travel experiences.
