Romanian tourists favor Greece as top foreign vacation spot

A recent survey of roughly 1,200 Romanian internet users found that one quarter of respondents plan their holidays abroad. Among those travelling overseas, 26.6% chose Greece as their destination, followed by 15% heading to Bulgaria, 14% to Italy and just under 10% to Turkey; smaller shares selected Spain (9%), Egypt (4%) and France (3.5%).

For transport, 55.6% said they will use their own car, while train and air travel were selected by 16.6% and 16.2% respectively, and 11.6% preferred coach buses. Regarding financing, 70% save money throughout the year, 10.6% rely on vacation vouchers, a similar proportion use credit cards or overdrafts, less than 7% borrow from friends and under 3% receive employer bonuses. Payment methods for the trip were split roughly evenly between cash, cash‑plus‑card and card‑only options.

The poll, conducted online by a financial comparator for CEC Bank and reported by Romanian media, reflects a respondent profile of 60% salaried employees, over 80% city dwellers and 58% with higher education.
