Romanian traffic accident data shows high fatalities from pedestrians in Bucharest and wildlife collisions in Harghita

In Bucharest, almost 500 serious road accidents recorded over the past five years were caused by pedestrians, resulting in 166 deaths and 772 serious injuries between 2021 and early 2026. Two‑fifths of these severe crashes occurred at pedestrian crossings, and police said roughly 490 pedestrians were found solely at fault. In the first four months of 2026, 15 serious accidents were attributed to drivers failing to yield at crossings.

In Harghita county, 76 road accidents involving wild animals were logged in the first six months of the year, most of them involving deer, with three bear incidents and five involving other species. The majority of collisions caused only material damage, and 62 took place on national roads. Police remind drivers to stop, activate hazard lights, and report the incident to emergency services immediately.
