Romanian travel sector shows shift toward high-value group bookings
An analysis by AnimaWings reveals that over 60% of flight bookings are made for at least two people, indicating a high prevalence of travelers flying in couples, families, or groups. During the summer season and school holidays, the proportion of families with children reaches up to 50% for specific holiday destinations such as Antalya, Egypt, Greece, and Tunisia.
AnimaWings CEO Marius Pandel emphasized the importance of seating options, noting that the ability for passengers to sit together is a fundamental need rather than a luxury. The company highlighted that window seats are the most preferred, chosen by over 40% of passengers.
In the tourism sector, Christian Tour reported a 12.2% increase in total revenue for the first half of 2026, reaching 184.7 million lei, with a net profit of 6.3 million lei, up 15.3% from the previous year. Despite a decrease in passenger volume and total bookings, the company saw an 18.15% rise in average revenue per passenger, reaching 505.33 euro.
CEO Cristian Pandel stated that the company deliberately focused on higher-value products, such as exotic destinations and tours, to prioritize profitability over low-margin volumes.
