Romanian universities expand dossier‑based admissions for 2026
A growing number of Romanian higher‑education institutions will admit 2026‑bound students based solely on their Bacalaureat grades, eliminating extra written or oral exams. Universities including the University of Bucharest, Politehnica Bucharest, Babeș‑Bolyai in Cluj‑Napoca, Alexandru Ioan Cuza in Iași and the West University of Timișoara have announced that several faculties – ranging from biology, chemistry and geology to history, sociology and engineering – will use a single dossier criterion, most often the general Bacalaureat average, sometimes supplemented by a motivational letter.
The Academy of Economic Studies (ASE) will open its online admission round from 9 to 16 July, offering 8 031 bachelor places, of which 3 211 are state‑funded. Candidates can choose from 36 programmes taught in Romanian, English, French and German. Admission at ASE combines the dossier average (70 % Bacalaureat score, 30 % high‑school grades) with a motivational essay, language competency tests for foreign‑language programmes, and written exams for a few specific fields such as cybernetics, statistics and law.
