Romanians favor 72‑hour summer getaways, shunning crowded hotspots

Romanian travellers are shifting toward very short vacations. Booking data from Kiwi.com shows that for June‑August 2026, round‑trip reservations by Romanian citizens rose 41.3% year‑on‑year while the average trip length fell 6.6%. The trend favors compact escapes that combine easy access, strong first‑day experiences and a balance of culture, food and relaxation. Italy remains the top short‑break destination, with overall travel to the country up 47.2% and city‑specific growth such as Milan (+46.0%) and Bari (+192.1%). Other Mediterranean spots – Malta, Skiathos, Ibiza – also saw strong gains.

Travel influencer Lucas Brancatisano, who has visited more than 60 countries, listed five cities he would never return to. He cites New Delhi’s pollution and traffic, León’s (Nicaragua) evening‑time danger, Oia on Santorini’s extreme summer crowds, Phnom Penh’s lack of attractions, and Benidorm’s overtourism by British visitors as the reasons for his decision.
