Romania's Renewable Energy Share Below EU Average at 25.6% in 2025

Eurostat provisional data show that renewable sources accounted for 25.6% of Romania's final gross energy consumption in 2025, a slight decline from 25.4% in 2024 and below the European Union average of 26.2% that year. While the EU’s overall renewable share rose from 25.2% in 2024 to 26.2% in 2025, Romania remains behind countries such as Sweden (65.4%), Finland (53%) and Denmark (48.2%). However, Romania outperforms Germany and France, whose renewable shares were 23.9%.

In the electricity sector, renewables supplied 49.87% of the country's total electricity consumption, trailing leaders like Austria (90.8%) and Sweden (89.2%). The data underline a gradual increase in renewable use for heating and cooling, reaching 27.4% in 2025 across the EU.
