Romania's AEP announces potential elections in 35 localities
Adrian Țuțuianu, president of the Permanent Electoral Authority (AEP), announced that elections may be required in 35 Romanian localities following the early termination of mayoral mandates. The number of affected administrative units could increase by six or seven as legal challenges regarding conflicts of interest and incompatibilities are resolved in court.
Țuțuianu has submitted a detailed report to the Government regarding these mandate terminations. Additionally, the AEP is discussing electoral reform with Prime Minister Luca Niculescu. Proposed reforms aim to address electoral legislation, logistics, and political party structures, which could be promoted either as government emergency ordinances or through parliamentary legislative initiatives.
