Romania's Brașov and Iași regions undertake pest control and waste‑cleanup drives

The Brașov municipal government has launched a city‑wide pest‑control campaign from 18 May to 31 May 2026. Twenty teams will treat green areas for adult mosquitoes, larvae, and ticks, while ten high‑power teams will work at night on streets and parking lots. Operations will pause on rainy or windy days, as mayor George Scripcaru said, “If it rains, disinsection is not effective… we do not want to waste public money.” Treatments will use biocide‑approved substances on both public and private property.

Separately, more than 80 volunteers gathered over the weekend to clean Dealul Rediu near Iași. The “Curățăm Rediu” initiative collected nearly two truckloads of abandoned waste, including plastic bottles, car tires, and construction debris, suggesting illegal dumping. Restaurant Casablanca Iaşi joined the effort, with manager Paul Pădurariu stressing community responsibility, while resident Raluca Nemeșu highlighted the need for joint action between authorities and citizens.
