Romania's Constanța Port and Netherlands Roll Out New Truck Weigh‑in‑Motion and Tax Systems

The National Administration of Maritime Ports in Constanța, Romania, began installing weight‑in‑motion (WIM) systems at its main entry gates. Sensors on gates 7, 14, 10 bis and 10 will weigh trucks up to 200 tonnes while travelling between 5 km/h and 90 km/h, capturing data on weight, speed, axle count, dimensions and load distribution. The project, carried out by RASIROM, is intended to digitalise port logistics, improve traffic safety, reduce overload on infrastructure and provide centralized data for analyzing freight flows.

From 1 July, the Netherlands will replace the existing European vignette scheme with a new road‑tax system for trucks over 3.5 tonnes. The Dutch National Vehicle Authority warned operators, including those from the Republic of Moldova, that non‑compliance can lead to fines. The change aims to modernise toll collection and increase revenue from heavy‑vehicle road use.
