Romania's Danube Delta Authority approves de‑silting of Băltenii de Jos and Periteașca channels

The Administration of the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve (ARBDD) in Tulcea issued official permits to clean and de‑silting two waterways – the Băltenii de Jos channel on the north bank of the Sfântu Gheorghe arm and the Periteașca channel that links the Razelm‑Sinoe complex with the Black Sea. The permits aim to restore navigation for local residents and fishermen.

Governor Florin Stăneață told Agerpres that low water levels have severely limited boat access and that the de‑silting is a “general interest” priority, adding that there is “considerable pressure at the moment.” He also urged tourists and locals to travel responsibly and avoid high speeds on the waterways. The authority previously banned the use of certain fishing nets on July 7 when the Danube’s flow fell below 50 cm, allowing their use only where water depth exceeds that threshold.
