Romania's DNSC warns of ongoing SMS fraud demanding false fines

The National Directorate for Cybersecurity (DNSC) in Romania has announced that a campaign of fraudulent SMS messages continues, in which attackers claim users owe taxes or fines and urge them to click links for payment or verification. The messages employ urgent language, short deadlines and threats of additional penalties, and direct recipients to web domains that mimic official platforms.

DNSC advises the public not to open any links received by SMS, to verify any payment obligations only through official channels entered manually in a browser, and to scrutinize website URLs before providing personal or banking information. Victims who have already entered card details should contact their bank immediately. Reports of such messages can be submitted to DNSC via pnrisc.dnsc.ro or the online safety platform, and the agency offers a free Blacklist Protection extension to check suspicious domains.
