Romania's Health Ministry allocates 162.5 million lei to PNRR hospital upgrades

The Romanian Ministry of Health reported that 81% of its National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) allocation has been absorbed, with payments exceeding 162.5 million lei for projects that modernise medical infrastructure, expand digital services and improve patient care. Funds are being directed to hospitals across the country, including the National Institute of Legal Medicine in Bucharest, the Louis Țurcanu Children’s Emergency Hospital in Timișoara, the Oradea Municipal Hospital, the Cluj County Emergency Hospital, the Miercurea Ciuc County Emergency Hospital, the Socola Psychiatric Institute in Iași, and the Saint Apostle Andrei Emergency Hospital in Constanța, as well as community health centres in Românași, Popricani and Gârbou.

Between 6‑10 July, the ministry also signed 35 additional contractual amendments to extend implementation deadlines, adjust VAT components and secure necessary contributions for the remaining projects. Most amendments relate to Component 7 (Digital Transformation) and Component 12 (Health), covering the digitalisation of hospitals, construction and refurbishment of public hospital infrastructure, reduction of nosocomial infections and the development of integrated community health centres. These steps aim to ensure the continuity of PNRR investments and deliver faster, safer and more efficient medical services to Romanian patients.
