Romania's HoReCa and real‑estate sectors push ahead with new projects amid economic uncertainty

Despite inflation and reduced consumer spending, investment in Romania's hospitality (HoReCa) sector continues. In Argeș County, 14 new HoReCa projects are at various stages, placing the county among the region's most active. Nationwide, 864 food‑and‑drink projects have been identified in the past year, 83% of which are new constructions, valued at over 21 billion lei and driven largely by private investors.

At the same time, the Romanian real‑estate market faces delays not from lack of demand but from legislative and administrative unpredictability. Developer Mihaela Neagu, behind the Cartier Transilvania project in Brașov, warns that frequent tax and legal changes, cumbersome procedures, and a recent cyber‑attack on the cadastral agency are inflating costs and stalling developments, threatening jobs across the construction supply chain.
