Romania's interim Labour Minister Dragoș Pîslaru says salary law talks advancing

Interim Labour Minister Dragoș Pîslaru told Digi24 that negotiations on Romania's new unified salary law are progressing in the health sector and that a provisional solution is expected by the end of the week. He said the health sector must be resolved before the more complex education sector can be addressed, noting that without agreements in both sectors the law cannot be passed.

Pîslaru highlighted that the draft aims to raise salaries for about two‑thirds of public‑sector employees, with no cuts to any wages. The government estimates the fiscal impact at roughly €12 billion. Simulations show that any potential salary reductions would be limited to exceptional cases. He also indicated that the draft has been improved since the July 17 version and that work continues to finalize it, with a view to adoption by the end of August.
