Romania's Mamaia seaside resort and historic Constanta draw tourists

Mamaia, the Black Sea resort north of Constanta, has long been a favored beach for Romania’s affluent visitors, yet it is increasingly welcoming a broader public. The area hosts some of the country’s most upscale hotels and long‑standing leisure facilities.

Constanta, whose origins trace back to the 7th‑century Greek colony Tomis, later became part of the Roman Empire, the Byzantine realm, Genoese trade networks and the Ottoman Empire. Significant growth began in the late‑19th century after the 1878 Berlin Treaty attached Dobruja to Romania, prompting extensive infrastructure development and settlement programs. Today the city combines modern tourism with a rich cultural heritage, drawing visitors to its historic monuments and seaside attractions.
