Romania's Ministry of Defence Receives First COBRA II Armored Vehicles

The Ministry of National Defence of Romania took delivery of the first COBRA II light‑weight armored tactical vehicles produced domestically. The hand‑over was described by ministry officials as "a important moment for equipping the Romanian Army" and a step toward strengthening the country's strategic resilience.

The vehicles are part of a multiyear contract with Turkish manufacturer Otokar signed on 27 November 2024, covering 1,059 COBRA II units in nine configurations for a total value of about 4.263 billion RON (≈ 852 million EUR). Production is centred at the Mediaș plant, with the first 12 units delivered in July 2026 and a total of 276 expected by 14 May 2026. The programme aims to boost Romania's defence industry, create high‑skill jobs and meet NATO allies' 2025 investment targets.
