Moldova and Romania report various legal and environmental developments

In Moldova, over 68 million lei are being invested between 2022 and 2026 to clean and deepen riverbeds, including the Răut, Botna, Bîc, Răut, and Lăpușna, to mitigate flood risks. Additionally, Moldovan authorities have finalized the confiscation of eight properties worth over 9.6 million lei from a former official involved in illegal land registrations.

In Romania, several legal and environmental actions are underway. The Ministry of Environment has awarded over 35 million lei in contracts to Pro Biodiversitas, a firm controlled by a former ministerial advisor. In the judicial sector, an inspector from the Dobrogea-Litoral Water Administration was caught red-handed accepting a 10,000 lei bribe to avoid penalties. Other incidents include a 30,000 lei fine for improper medical waste transport in Bucharest, police searches in Mureș regarding fraudulent holiday packages, and a 90,000 lei fine for illegal waste dumping in Florești.

Criminal investigations also highlight fraud cases, including a 32-year-old man detained for swindling a 90-year-old woman out of 41,000 euros using a fake medical emergency pretext, and a dispute involving the Ministry of Environment and Romsilva regarding illegal access roads in the Băneasa Forest.
