Romanian regulator ONJN adds 800 illegal gambling sites to blacklist

The National Office for Gambling (ONJN) announced that around 800 unlicensed online gambling sites were added to Romania’s blacklist during a recent supervisory committee meeting. The new entries join roughly 370 sites previously blocked in the current mandate, bringing the total number of domains blacklisted under the present leadership to about 1,180. Since its establishment in 2013, ONJN says it has placed roughly 1,500 illegal sites on the list.

The agency used a newly‑developed detection tool that identifies clone sites – platforms that share the same technical root or branding but operate under multiple domain names to evade blocking. ONJN President Vlad‑Cristian Soare warned that the black‑market accounts for over 70 % of Europe’s online gambling activity and stressed the need for stronger legislation and digitalisation of the regulator’s operations.
