Romania's Permanent Electoral Authority proposes new political parties law
The Permanent Electoral Authority (AEP) has placed a new draft law regarding political parties under public debate. This proposed legislation aims to replace the current Law no. 14/2003.
Constitutional law specialists, including Mihai Cristian Apostolache, have expressed concerns that the new regulations could seriously impact political pluralism and the constitutional right to association. Under the Romanian Constitution, political pluralism is categorized as a supreme value and is considered a condition and guarantee of constitutional democracy.
Critics argue that the draft law, in its current form, represents a regression that could affect the ability of citizens to express their political will through representative authorities at both national and local levels.
