Romania's Senate President pushes speedy salary law to secure €770 million EU funds

Senate President Mircea Abrudean said on Tuesday that the new public‑sector salary law must be adopted without delay, emphasizing that Romania cannot afford postponements if it wants to unlock about €770 million tied to the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR). The draft will enter a three‑week public consultation, during which unions, public institutions and professional groups can submit comments.

Abrudean stressed that the reform will cut the existing 151 salary bonuses, eliminating 87 and capping the remainder so that total bonuses do not exceed 20 % of gross wages. He assured that no current income will be reduced and highlighted the political agreement needed to meet the PNRR milestone.

"Legea salarizării va fi pusă în consultare publică trei săptămâni de zile," he said, underlining the urgency to avoid losing EU funds.
