Romania's tax authority seizes illegal crypto‑mining farm in Satu Mare

Romanian tax investigators from the Directorate‑General for Fiscal Anti‑Fraud (DGAF‑ANAF) uncovered a large illegal cryptocurrency‑mining operation in Satu Mare. The raid seized 407 specialised mining rigs, valued at over 2 million lei, and revealed an estimated electricity consumption of about 7 million lei between August 2025 and April 2026. The equipment was operating continuously without any fiscal registration or declared income. ANAF has launched further checks to determine the amount of undeclared revenue and tax liabilities and indicated that criminal proceedings may follow if evidence of offences is found. The case has been presented as the first public instance of a clandestine crypto‑mining farm in Romania, highlighting the agency’s focus on combating tax evasion in the digital‑asset sector.
