Romania's World Environment Day clean‑ups collect over 7 tons of waste

On World Environment Day, June 5, the Brașov County Environmental Directorate organised a clean‑up at the Plaiul Foii tourist area in Zărnești. Employees of the directorate and local volunteers participated, highlighting the event’s aim to raise ecological awareness. Director Ciprian Băncilă emphasized the importance of collective action for protecting the planet.

Earlier, from May 28‑31, an eco‑leader training camp was held in Sulina on the Danube Delta coast. Eighteen volunteers, local residents and representatives of the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve (ARBDD) gathered 7.6 tonnes of waste, including 6.1 tonnes of plastic, from the beach area between the stone pier and the meteorological station. The operation was supported by the local municipality, the “Cu Drag Din Sulina” association and Navrom Delta for transport.
